Michael Cooper (2003 Vintage) says
Launched from the 2002 vintage, this elegant Hawke's Bay wine was designed as a sort of junior Irongate. It was fermented and lees-aged in a mix of tanks (30 per cent) and seasoned French oak barrels (70 per cent), with no malolactic fermentation. Showcasing its fresh, ripe, grapefruit-like flavours, with subtle oak and lees characters adding richness, it's a minerally, well-structured, quietly classy wine with a fully dry finish. The 2003 is similar, offering dry, minerally, lemony, slightly nutty flavours in a flinty, tightly structured style with fresh acidity and some complexity. Best with food.
