WINESTATE (2006 Vintage) says
Beautifully structured wine that defies the vintage conditions. Lovely length and weight of sweet varietal fruit.

From the second label of the large Western Australian producer Palandri comes this reasonably priced medium-bodied cab merlot. Expect deep, dense, red cherry, dark plum and caramelly oak flavours, supple texture and firm, though not aggressive, tannins. The 2003 is the second consecutive vintage of the wine to be rated Bloody Good.

As we were writing these words, we heard that this wine had won a gold medal at the Perth Wine Show - a great result for a wine that we've seen on sale for $10. Winemaker Tony Carapetis gets better results from his vineyards each year, and this is a cracker: there's really pure, bright, intense blackcurrant fruit, some quite substantial richness, and a fair whack of firm oakiness. Should be even better from about mid-2004 - if you can bear to hold on to it for that long.
