Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
This is a bargain cool-climate shiraz, with plenty of fresh, spicy plum and blackberry fruits on the nose, some hints of pepper and a good serve of oak to boot. Flavours are in the same spectrum, and tannins make a sturdy yet elegant shape: good balance, and red fruits to close. Terrific value.

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Up-front and intense, this richly flavoured, sumptuous shiraz marries deep cassis and blackberry fruit with smoky, dark chocolate/mocha oak, with briary, meaty and earthy complexity. It's lifted by a whiff of black pepper, and despite its initial plushness and depth, it finishes rather short and currant-like, with obvious influences from stressed fruit. So enjoy it before it gets too much older.

Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
This has a smart, bright and fragrant nose, with complex, spicy brambly berry fruits, some pepper and meaty oak. The palate's mid-weight and delivers supple tannins from top to toe, plenty of ripe plum and blackberry flavour, a little spice and immediate appeal.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Deep red-purple; the bouquet is rich, with concentrated, dark small berry fruit and touches of chocolate. Lovely rich plum, dark berry, chocolate and blackberry fruit floods the bouquet, the oak as subtle as ever. The best Barwang for years, if not ever.

James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
A wine which has improved wonderfully in bottle over the past nine months. Strong, deep red-purple; the bouquet is smooth with nicely balanced fruit and oak, and a mix of dark berry and chocolate aromas. The palate is full and well balanced, with dark berry and more savoury/earthy flavours finishing with tannins that have now softened and integrated.

James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; intense cherry, spice and earth varietal aromas with typically restrained oak follow-through on the palate, with liquorice, cherry and earth flavours and fine grained tannins to close.
Australian Wine Companion 1999 1998
James Halliday (1995 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; a welcoming aroma of gently chocolatey, faintly spicy, fruit with an equally appealing hint of vanilla oak leads on to an elegant, supple wine with finely composed and balanced tannins, oak and acidity. All in all, has many of the characteristics of a classic Hunter Shiraz.
