Expert Reviews

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
Sourced from the often underrated Blackwood Valley. Intense ribena and blackberry aromas with some slightly minty overtones. There are some rich sweet dark plum flavours in there. Ripe supple tannins and a firm seam of fine grained oak. Elegant refined wine.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Very good colour; a fragrant bouquet of blackcurrant and cassis leads into a very focused and intense palate with notes of olive and herb, but primarily driven by the pure cabernet black fruit flavours and accompanying cedary French oak.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
This is a firmer and more robust cabernet to the previous award winning 2005 which I liked a lot. Bouquet of cedary and black olive, chocolate and dark plum. The palate is immensely powerful and robust with firm strong tannins, substantial oak and very intense concentrated fruit. Well integrated and very long in the mouth. Will handle some extended cellaring.

Big, full-bodied wine thats still a baby and will need heaps more time to reach its potential. Has bags of fruit flavour, massive tannins and excellent oak to balance.

Aromatic and flavoursome; some green minty notes intrude slightly.

A big, extracted, tannic monster that needs to do more time in the cellar before its approached. Has heaps of ripe black fruit and vanilla pod oak.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Medium-bodied, with attractive cedary overtones to the black fruits, and fine, ripe tannins; good overall content and balance.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Similar mouthfeel to all of the Barwick red wines; has just a little more structure from savoury tannins; needs more flesh.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the moderately intense bouquet has dark berry fruit, a touch of spice and an airbrush of oak; the medium-bodied palate has plenty of ripe blackberry/ cassis fruit, but does have a somewhat hard finish.
