They only get a crop of gamay every three years, but since the recent change to biodynamics both the vineyard and the ease of turning the resultant grapes into wine have improved significantly. Bass Phillip is an iconic - though often controversial - producer. It's a walk on the wild side and amen to that - there's a time for everything. It tastes rosy, spicy, meaty and smoky, and it ably combines rich, red berries with wild-herb flavours. It's medium-bodied, feels low in acid and is, Walsh reckons, an entirely 'toothsome glass of wine' (a positive statement).
