Has retained good hue and depth; the attractive and expressive bouquet leads into a generous palate with perfectly ripened plum and dark cherry fruit and fine silky tannins. Impressive.

Bob Peruch has made some pretty good pinots but I reckon he's really on to something here. It's still a very young wine with all the gawkiness of youth but the varietal intensity and power emanating from the palate is most impressive. Excellent balance and it has a real brightness about it. Really promising wine for the longer term.

Meaty, wild and browning, this gamey, rather horsey young pinot would appear to have a significant presence of brettanomyces taint. Rich, savoury and quite powerful, it finishes rather drying and Bandaid-like.

Herbal, meaty pinot with a white pepper-like fragrance of slightly tomatoey berry fruit, under-growth and herbaceous fruit finishes soft and sappy but slightly hot, with herbal, greenish edges.

Bob Peruch has established a reputation for his pinots, and with good reason. The lightish colour is deceptive. Behind the simple mask is a wine of great intensity and firm structure that struts a pinot with grunt. This has improved greatly since I tasted it last year. The deliciously vibrant fruit flavours mingle with some brooding deep and dark forest stuff. In the end you get a real statement of pinot.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Strong red-purple; a complex, powerful and fragrant bouquet has aromas of leather and spice over a foundation of plum. The elegant palate has good flavour and structure, the flavours running through plum, spice and sweet leather, all strongly varietal.
