James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Deep purple-crimson; painstaking work in the vineyard and a perfectly-timed decision to pick, have produced a very good shiraz, with black fruits, spice and licorice interwoven on the bouquet and medium-to-full-bodied palate alike, quality oak also making a contribution. A triumph for the vintage. 14% alc.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Excellent colour and clarity; the medium-bodied palate has both flavour and structural complexity, with a beguiling mix of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, spice and black pepper; this has been achieved without burdening the finish.

A highly aromatic and very complex bouquet; black fruits with a full range of spices, some oriental, plus cracked pepper; soft, persistent tannins.

Campbell Mattinson (2005 Vintage) says
The Battely property was once known as the Brown Brothers Everton vineyard (back in the early 1980s). It had a very high reputation. The property was lost to vines for nearly a decade, but Russell Bourne has revitalised it, and is now producing extremely high quality wine from it. 2005 RELEASE Packed with sweet fruit flavour - aniseed, raspberry, blueberry - but lifted to higher realms by exotic notes of graphite, cedar and toast. Brightness and oomph galore. Fruity, ripe, flavoursome tannins. Really, it's just a beautiful wine, DRINK 2008-2015.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Aromatic, complex spicy/earthy/savoury aromas; intense black cherry and plum fruit; long and powerful; fine tannins.
