Battle of Bosworth Organic Shiraz

Cracka Review

Winemaker's Notes

The Battle of Bosworth Preservative Free Shiraz is our take on a Spanish 'Joven' style which refers to a wine that has been made with little or no oak-ageing and is designed to be drunk when young. Once again you might be hearing the BoB wheels heading off road onto a slightly different path, as our BoB PFS is not made using Spanish varieties, (such as Tempranillo or Grenache.) only SHIRAZ. A super vibrant black/ purple colour in the glass heralds a lively dark forest fruit and black cherry nose, as well as a lushness and hints of liquorice and spice. The wine has a rich, textural and even palate tied together with beautifully structured tannins. This is a medium to full-bodied style of wine.

Battle of Bosworth Organic Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Dense, deep crimson-purple; organically grown grapes have revelled in the '12 vintage conditions; the unplumbed depths of this full-bodied, black-fruited velvety wine will take decades to open up and reveal all, but the soft, round tannins mean it can be enjoyed at any stage of its development. Great value.

Nick Stock (2010 Vintage) says
This has a wealth of dark plum and blackberry fruit on the nose, some older nutty oak complexity too; it has an earthy edge. The palate is smooth, supple and even, showing lovely, deep, soft tannins, blackberry compote flavour and good persistence.

Deep, dark and concentrated black fruit and mulled spices bouquet; the palate is thick with mocha, bitter chocolate and a slight tarry edge to the fruit; chewy and ample to conclude.

Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
Dark and brooding, this rather firmish and aggressive young shiraz is dripping with deep, palate-staining flavours of blackberries, plums and cassis countered by a rather charry presence of assertive newish oak. Underpinned by fine, mouthcoating but grippy tannin, it's backed by meaty, currant-like nuances and lingering notes of menthol. Give it a few years.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Bright colour; a serious bouquet of mocha, black fruit, tar and a good splash of well-handled oak; fresh and focused, with vibrant acid, plentiful tannins, and a positive step-up from previous vintages; proof that organic wine can be delicious, even in a tough vintage.

Lovely concentration and focus; dark chocolate fruits, fruitcake spice and warm but vibrant fruit right across the palate; long and quite luscious.

Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
Complex spiced blackberry fruits and background savoury oak, there's some earthy rawness that makes for a compelling wine; neat and powerful. Lovely supple texture in the mouth, plum fruits and layers of toasty oak complexity, fine soft tannins roll around on smooth wheels; curvaceous yet elegant, and well balanced.

Strong purple-red, typical of the vintage; medium- to full-bodied succulent, opulent black fruits and a dash of chocolate and spice fill the mouth; well-controlled extract.
