"Bellarmine's estate vineyards are not only well located but also impeccably managed, resulting in reliably high-quality grapes. This wine is ever a wolf in sheep's clothing unless you read the back label revealing that some residual sugar gives the palate a cornucopia of sweet lime juice flavour perfectly balanced by acidity."

expert reviews about

Bellarmine Wines Pemberton Riesling Half-Dry

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
The grapes are picked at the same time as those for Riesling Dry, but the fermentation is arrested with the equivalent of 1% alcohol retained as sugar; the wine is distinctly sweeter, but balanced by crisp acidity, and will develop very well over time.

Touch of citrus blossom to the nose. Very pleasant, intense, limey palate.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
A clean, delicate bouquet of citrus blossom and spice is followed by a beautifully balanced palate in Mosel Kabinett style, the essence of lime juice offset by crisp acidity.

Ray Jordan (2009 Vintage) says
This is a slightly sweet Riesling which provides a delightful alternative to the traditional dry Australian style. The bouquet of orange and lemon plus some spice lime characters is superb. The sweet fruit driven palate has a fine acid that maintains a delightful purity and freshness. Lovely wine.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Pale colour and vibrant hue; restrained green apple bouquet with a backbone of minerality; the palate is off-dry with pure fruit, focused acidity and an even Mosel-like slatey finish.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Lively, fresh lime sherbet flavours, the residual sugar perfectly balanced in Kabinett Mosel style; very good length and a zesty finish.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
This is a beautiful example of an alternative style of riesling. It's slightly sweet but the palate has a crispness that keeps it fresh and non-cloying. It has a beautiful fragrance on the nose, but it's the palate that will knock your socks off.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
A delicate, gently flowery bouquet; the light-bodied palate is fine and elegant, with wisps of herb and lemon, the sweetness perfectly balanced by acidity.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Delicious cool climate style with much of the lime juice flavour of Mosel spatlese; great aperitif or Chinese food match. Slightly lower alcohol would be even better again.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Pale, and light-bodied; has a lot of similarities with German rieslings, particularly those of the Mosel region; delicate limey fruit, and obvious sweetness balanced by acidity in a Kabinett style; outside the square.
