Cracka Review

The wine drinker is certainly the winner with this pretty decent offering from Berton. On the nose, it shows aromas of black and blue berrieswith hints of dried leaves and toastiness. The palate is full-bodied and lush with dense berry flavours, friendly tannins, and a dry, juicy, toasty finish. Just needs a nice, rich tomatoey meat dish to compliment it.

Winemaker's Notes

The Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon has an impenetrable black colour; it is very fragrant with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, fresh tobacco and sweet pepper. The palate is intense and concentrated with a fine structure showing abundant blackberry, cassis, minerals and light toasty oak notes that combine to give a long persistent finish. Perfect with fillet mignon or rich pasta dishes!

Huge, dark, dense, inky wine with an "impenetrable" crimson colour. Dusty oak mingles with blackberry fruit aromas, and the palate shows lashings of blueberry fruit. Quite tannic but it's balanced 5+

This is the best Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon made each vintage by Berton, looking very much as if it comes from the same vineyard, quite possibly the same block, each year. Deeply coloured. Its ripe blackcurrant and dark chocolate on the bouquet is followed by a plump palate, before slightly earthy tannins spoil the party a little. It needs patience for 5 or so years to show its best.

A distinctly earthy, savoury manifestation of Coonawarra cabernet in a medium-weight frame; some black fruits are evident, interesting given that cork has only been in the bottle for a short time (as at August '09).

Big, bold style that is still opening up. Simple black jubey bouquet and tarry licorice flavours.
