Cracka Review

Bests Bin 1 continues to be one of the country’s best value Shiraz and a good example of the unique qualities that make Great Western Shiraz so cellar-worthy. Winemaker Justin Purser has thrown all his vinous tricks into his top hat and turned out some Shiraz magic. What we love about this wine is the seductive wave of spice and its unforced elegance that makes it such a perfect food wine. Prepare yourself for a wine that shows floral and pepper aromatics before a focused and textured palate.

Winemaker's Notes

With the inevitable scarcity of Best’s Thomson Family and Bin 0 Shiraz wines, Bin 1 Shiraz is the wine that gives people their first taste of our style of Great Western Shiraz. Made predominantly from Best’s own vineyards and meticulously crafted with the same attention to detail as the flagship wines, Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s Great Western’s winemaking ideals and the uniqueness of the Great Western region.

Bin 1 is a classic, cool climate, aromatic Shiraz, made in a style that is floral, spicy and peppery yet retains generous fruit characteristics and intensity. It is a well-balanced wine where alcohol does not dominate.

We make this wine in an elegant, approachable style. We want people to understand that this is a wine made to drink now, savouring the flavour profile from Shiraz made in the Great Western region. Bin 1 is a great accompaniment to food and it celebrates our many years of learning and winemaking history at Best’s Great Western.

Appearance: Moderately deep garnet red.

Nose: Lifted white pepper and spice with layers of ripe red summer fruits.

Palate: Fresh red fruit and spice dominate with fine chalky tannins that support and lengthen the flavours. A savoury finish makes this an ideal food wine.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Bright purple-crimson, the vintage, and sensitive winemaking, has resulted in a wine that speaks eloquently of its place, the red and black fruits full of fine spice and pepper, and a hint of eucalypt, the tannins almost velvety, the balance and length impeccable. Great value. 14.5% alc
