Bimbadgen Regions Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Forget Pinot Grigio when you can have a proper Gris like this. It is aromatic and perfumed with fresh pear and red apple aromatics on a creamy palate which is screaming out for terrine or even a little pork knuckle.

Winemaker's Notes

The Bimbadgen Regions range of wines showcases a diverse selection of varietals chosen from regions known or identified for their superior quality and expression of flavour. This Pinot Gris from Orange NSW displays floral aromas, with hints of green apple, nashi pear and ginger spice. The rich mid-palate is balanced by natural citrus acidity giving the wine a long refreshing finish. A perfect match for dishes with Asian flavours.

Appearance: Pale lemon, with a hint of copper.

Nose: Nashi pear, green apples and floral jasmine.

Palate: Honey, lemon and ginger combine to form a mouth watering mid.

Food: Many lightly spiced Asian dishes.

Cellaring: Drink now.

Alcohol: 13.4%

Winemaking: The fruit was crushed and pressed into stainless tanks, with free run and pressings portions kept separate and minimally fined. The clear free run juice had an aromatic yeast strain introduced, while the pressings were sent to old French barriques and allowed to naturally ferment. Fermentation temperature was kept constant at a cool 15 degrees, maintaining the natural aromas. Though fermentation was complete after ten days, the wine was left on gross lees to add texture to the mid-palate. The pressings in oak remained there for two months before being blended with the free run portion in tank. The wine was stabilised and minimally fined before final filtration and bottling in October.
