Rolf Binder. Kevin Mitchell. Two great South Australian winemakers brought together in a wine dream-team, the duo out to make deeply coloured, utterly full-flavoured reds in the rather classic Barossan form.
This label was originally destined for the export market, but the wild success of the Aussie dollar over the last 12 months stopped it from getting on the water. Lucky for us really, as this is a very handy, ripe and luscious red that is ready for immediate consumption.
The secret to the excellence of these wine is a simple recipe - take two of Australia's finest and most highly-awarded winemakers; add fully concentrated ripe plump grapes; gently crush the fruit to extract the richly flavoured juice; pour into carefully selected oak barrels and leave to mature; check occasionally to ascertain its peak, then bottle.
Such is the recipe followed by Rolf Binder of the Barossa Valley and Kevin Mitchell of the Clare Valley, fine winemakers and advocates of lifes adventures.
Reviews and Accolades
"The 2009 Gunslingers Shiraz offers a deep garnet-purple color and pronounced notes of warm blackberries and spiced plums, blueberry preserves, cinnamon, mace and vanilla pod with a whiff of toasty oak. Crisp, rich and full-bodied with lots of vibrant primary fruit supported plus a medium level of grainy tannins, it gives a long vanilla and spice finish. Though delicious now, it should cellar to 2016. Binder-Mitchell is a joint project bringing together two of South Australia's top winemaking talents: Rolf Binder and Kevin Mitchell of Kilikanoon.
