The Binder name is known for its fleshy sweet fruit style and this is no different. An easy drinking red with dark cherry and developed earthy fruit flavours finishing with spicy complexity. A quaffer but a good one at that.
Rolf Binder and Kevin Mitchell are South Australian winemakers. They both liks using ripe fruit to make sleek, powerful reds with a strong underlying structure supported (but not dominated) by oak. They have created Binder Mitchell in order to make wines that express their shared philosophy.
This wine aims to strengthen the credentials of both a traditional South Australian blend and a traditional South Australian approach to winemaking.
The pioneers of modern winemaking long ago established the compatibility of soft, rich Shiraz and more firmly structured Cabernet Sauvignon. They created 'cellar styles' by varying the proportions of the two varieties and using grapes from different vineyards and districts depending on local vintage conditions. Their aim was to maintain consistency from year to year.
Binder and Mitchell know the style they want and with this inaugural release they have set themselves high standards for the future.
