Cracka Review

Here we have a cracking cab sav from Bird In Hand produced under their top flight label - Nest Egg. It's a full-bodied, fleshy and fruity number showing dark fruits, subtle mint, plums and soft spice on the nose, whilst the palate is dense and juicy, with a fine line of solid tannins and a long, supple finish with great balance. This will cellar of a decade plus!

Winemaker's Notes

This Cabernet has an intense deep red colour, the nose reveals blackcurrant, dark plums, aniseed and clove flavours. Firm yet fine tannins support the flavours by adding structure and depth which carries through the palate.

Matured in new and older French Oak for 18 months, this extremely limited wine is elegant and intense. Cellaring will be rewarding for the patient and discerning collector.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep, saturated colour; a potent, full-bodied cabernet with exemplary flavour and structure; blackcurrant fruit with hints of briar and leather drives the long, intense, evenly balanced palate. Top class grape growing and winemaking. Bottle no. 5328 of 9696.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
The colour is not entirely convincing, but the full-bodied palate brooks no argument with its display of cassis, blackberry and black plum flavours strongly supported by quality oak and fine tannins. Given the benefit of the colour doubt.

Firm, flavoursome, fresh with upfront intensity and the acidity to hold the fruit freshness complemented by fine tannins.

A complex wine, with distinct savoury/black olive overtones to the blackcurrant fruit; just a hint of bitterness in an otherwise excellent wine.

Opens with blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, but persistent tannins cut in early on the palate and need to soften.
