Bird in Hand Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

At Cracka we love to find wines that are truly representative of the place they hail from. This Shiraz from the Adelaide Hills shows why the region is on the up and up when it comes to making expressive cool climate Shiraz. What you find here is the vibrancy of black fruits and the exotic aromas of white pepper. It continues on the palate providing a scintillating ride that includes firm tannins and a supple texture that makes it the perfect wine for lighter bodied meat dishes like pork.

Winemaker's Notes

An exceptional year for Shiraz in the Adelaide Hills has provided a classic Bird in Hand Shiraz, with vibrant fruit, spice and a rich, velvety palate. This Shiraz has rich aromas of ripe blackberries and plums. The elegant palate has the characteristic flavours of cool climate Shiraz including spice, peppers, blackberry and blackcurrant.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep crimson-purple; the bouquet of red and black berry fruits augmented by spice promises much, and the medium- to full-bodied palate duly delivers, with depth to the supple fruit, ripe tannins and quality French oak.

Deep purple-crimson; a generous wine from start to finish, but without going over the top; sultry black fruits have spicy nutmeg notes, quality French oak and fine tannins both adding to the equation; overall, medium-bodied and harmonious.

Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2007 Vintage) says
Bird in Hand seems to specialise in wines that are deeply coloured - they look like blue-purple ink and make for a beautiful sight. It's pretty sexy stuff, full of spicy, soft-as-silk French oak and plummy, Christmas cake-like flavours, though admittedly it's the high-class oak that wins the day in the end and is the dominating flavour of the aftertaste. But it's a wine of deep impact and aroma, and immediate full-thrust appeal.

Medium-bodied; rich blackberry, licorice and spice fruit; ripe tannins provide good structure; well-integrated French oak.
