Cracka Review

This Pinot Gris is made in a crisper dry style and sees the addition of a portion of Sauvignon Blanc to add a touch more fruit complexity. Whatever they’ve done we think they nailed it as this wine just offers all round drinkability as an aperitif style. It’s got the essence of pears and quince and some floral notes too, but overall it’s the freshness that leaps out the glass. It’s clean and crisp with a nice texture on the palate that adds overall length and intrigue.

Winemaker's Notes

Light golden hue, soft green tints, interesting aromas quince, nashi pear & citrus/lemon flower with a richer, slightly oily background. A little soft cheese character, softer palate weight showing balanced residual sugar & lower acidity. Broader flavours of citrus and bread with a fresh, clean finish. Will develop further fatness with short term cellaring. A drink now style, preferably with food. Try sushi, Thai or Indian.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
A zesty pinot Gris with attitude, citrus, green apple and brown pear all interwoven; a long, fruit-filled, but dry, finish.

Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
A light bronze colour in the glass, as this variety can be, it shows nice ripeness and richness with orange marmalade and cooler pear fruits, a light peppery note here too. The palate has a smooth coat of sweet, ripe fruit and nicely judged acidity punching through gently sweet flavour. An each-way bet in style terms.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Has good balance and length, the pear and fruit flanked by lively, slightly citrussy, acidity; good length and balance.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Pungent tropical bouquet with some nice grapey flavours and a warming finish.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Lemony acidity adds to the length, though not so much to varietal character; however, the wine is clean and dry, with enough depth for food.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Crisp and clean, with good balance, length and mouthfeel; limitations - as ever - with the variety.
