James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Light to medium red; the bouquet has some earthy, spicy notes before the oak comes into play; the palate is chewy, extremely oaky and finishing with earthy tannins. Not the right style for Merlot.

James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is clean, with a mix of red berry and leaf aromas, but positively varietal. The wine has powerful mint, leaf and berry flavours, with lingering but soft tannins. Had it spent time in new French oak, could have been an outstanding wine.
