Blue Pyrenees Vintage Brut

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Blue Pyrenees was established by the French in 1963; no wonder the bubbly is so damn good. Reminds me a hell of a lot of good Champagne with all its bubbly goodness. This is made for a serious celebration.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Brilliant straw green with a pale pink hue.

Nose: The complex aromas of toast, freshly baked biscuits and nougat are evidence of extended aging on yeast lees. Subtle hints of lemon and red apple give an overall impression of freshness and vitality.

Palate: The Blue Pyrenees Vintage Brut exhibits a fine and persistent bead, concentrated yeast autolysis characters plus red & green apple fruit flavours. The lively palate is driven by a fresh acidity, which lingers harmoniously with the aged complexity.

Cellaring: Released as a mature style it is ready to appreciate now.

Grape Variety: 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier.

Rob Geddes MW (2009 Vintage) says
Complexity from pinot noir builds a weighty wine which is fuller in all areas than its sibling wine. Really well made wine.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
A complex, wild and evolved bouquet of toasty, citrusy and nutty aromas backed by creamy nuances is lifted by a whiff of honeysuckle. Round and richly flavoured, with citrusy fruit and a chewy, chalky texture, it finishes clean but marginally sweet, with drying, tangy acids.

Has good complexity at this price point; pleasantly tangy fruit; good length and a crisp, lingering finish.
