Cracka Review

How productive do you think you'll be at 116 years old? The vines used for this Riesling are that old and, judging by how good this wine is, appear to be going strong! Built dry, fresh and long, this is exactly the sort of super crisp and plain delicious Riesling that could bring Riesling back. Lovely Riesling.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine is named after Trevor & Marilyn’s eldest grandson Mackenzie William Naylor.

Crafted from some of Eden Valley’s oldest Riesling vines, planted in 1896, the 2012 vintage features lime, citrus and floral aromas. The palate shows delicate minerality with a hint of sweetness and finishes with a tight, crisp, acidity.

We’re bringing Riesling back with this wine…. and we think this vintage was even better than our first! In fact, so did the judges at the September 2012 Barossa Wine Show, where we proudly took out the gold medal for this wine!

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Pale quartz-green; an elegant wine made from vines planted two centuries ago; the bouquet is still to fully evolve, but the finely structured palate points the way, with its beautifully balanced display of sweet riesling fruit framed by minerally acidity.
James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Light green-straw; a fragrant and flowery bouquet with citrus and apple blossom signals a crisp and lively palate, with the hallmark acidity of the vintage.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; has started to develop the appearance of 'normal' riesling in contradistinction to the 2011s; has good intensity, grip, length and texture; drink now or later, whenever the mood takes you.
