Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Taylor Caldwell once said “Character, I am sure, lies in the genes” and this could not be truer in this stunning example of cool climate Shiraz from Brokenwood. With the vines taking lineage from the famous Graveyard, Wade Block and Seville single vineyards, this wine was always destined to be a looker. Medium bodied and packed full of red fruits and savoury vanilla spice, this wine is drinking well now and like all those blessed with good genes, will age gracefully.

Winemaker's Notes

Perfect youthful colour and a medium to dense depth. Aromas are red fruit spectrum – cherry and red spice with some vanillin, continuing on the initial flavours with lovely ‘weight’. Ripe fruit/ripe tannins and subtle oak from the 12 months in new French oak. As the vines get older, the quality of the fruit is definitely getting better and better. An excellent medium bodied Shiraz.

Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
There is a warmth (in the best sense) and generosity to this supple wine, its bouquet perfumed, its medium-bodied palate filled with red and black cherry fruit, the tannins superfine, French oak singing quietly. A most attractive shiraz from a moderate climate.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Bright crimson-red; a come-hither bouquet of dark cherry, plum and spice, then a particularly long and complex medium-bodied palate with dark fruits, licorice and pepper all held together by high-quality tannins.
