Brokenwood Stanleigh Park Vineyard Semillon

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2012 Vintage) says
A gentle, freshly presented semillon for early drinking or medium term cellaring. It's scented with lightly herbal and dusty aromas of citrus and honeydew melon with tobaccoey undertones while its bright, evenly paced palate of tangy lemon sherbet fruit reveals an underlying chalkiness. Long and refreshing, it finishes with finely balanced, clear acids.

A mix of lanolin, beeswax, lemon pith and a slight grassy edge here too: this is crisp and bright. The palate s like fresh-cut apple, really tangy, with fresh texture and crunchy acid.

Good colour with green tints and neutral lemony young Hunter semillon aroma. Fresh acidity and lemony flavours, medium long fruit with fine detailed acidity and slight phenolic grip.

Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
Heavily sulphured, with a dusty, herbal aroma of lemon sherbet, gooseberries and melon. Lean, taut and chalky, with a tangy, lemony presence of fruit likely to flesh out more in future. It's presently a little closed and hard, so give it some time.

A mesmerising paradox: Moreish from day one and it can live for thirty years, as a recent vertical proved! The 2011 is clean and even, with precise lemon juice and cut grass lingering fine and long; a delicate flick of ripeness provides approachability on the finish. A confident vintage for this label.

For earlier drinking fruity aromas with crisp parsley celery herbals on release. Smoother after three -six years showing hints of honey lanolin and wax.

Just about as taut and unevolved as you can hope for, this single-site Hunter semillon has a distinct green edge to the colour and a classic nose of lemon citrus, fresh-cut straw and beeswax. The palate s laser-like shape and intensity leave you mouth-watering, and there s the merest hint of toasty development at the finish that tantalises effectively. Recommend further cellaring, as there s much, much more to come.
