Brokenwood Verona Vineyard Shiraz

Cracka Review

Very attractive deep red colour with some purple tints. The cooler vintage and rain has meant a classic medium bodied Hunter Shiraz. Aromas of cinnamon and spice plus background charry oak. The oak is not at all dominant. The palate has ripe tannins and red berry fruit characters giving a soft sweet fruit mid palate. A great example of a vibrant Hunter Shiraz that can be enjoyed now or when it has further bottle age.

Brokenwood Verona Vineyard Shiraz

Expert Reviews

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
Planted in 1968 just across the way from the Graveyard Vineyard, this Verona Vineyard shiraz has soulful depth and impressive density. The nose offers dark, ripe berries and dusty cocoa powder, a savoury edge and earthy nuances. The palate's powerful yet measured, with plenty of tannin to ensure it'll age reliably and long, unevolved summer-berry flavour. Brilliant wine and terrific value.

This shows the class of Brokenwood's signature style. Red-purple in the glass, it looks concentrated and rich, dried plums and some sweet dusty/earthy aromas, blackberry, chocolate and background earthy complexity. The palate's rich and juicy, terrific even-handed fruit and a long frame of fine savoury tannin from start to finish. Reserved power.
