Brown Brothers Vintage Release Durif
Brown Brothers has been a trusted name in wine for longer than most can remember, and this durif is certainly a departure from the ballsy styles the variety can produce. Hailing from a fantastic year in Heathcote, it weighs in at around 14% alcohol and displays smells of dark berries and plums, subtle spice and a touch of smokiness on the nose before the palate kicks in with supple dark fruit flavours, a decent line of slightly chewy tannins, and a smooth, spicy finish. Some rare roast meats would go down well with this.
The fruit for this wine comes from our own Heathcote vineyard that sits on the rolling eastern slopes of the Mount Camel range near Bendigo. Saturated black red colour with a vibrant purple hue. Aromas of dark blood plums, liquorice and tobacco leap out of the glass, while the use of predominantly older oak has given the palate an elegance and refinement that is not usually found in young Durif. Dark berry fruit flavours are also a strong influence on the palate, offering an impressive intensity and a robust finish.
