Bullant Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Greg Follett, the winemaker behind the legendary Lake Breeze wines in Langhorne Creek, has blended a ripper of a wine that deserves a place in your wine rack if you want to rely on affordable mid-week reds. It’s a drink now red, which means it really won’t last in the cellar, all the more reason to have an impromptu barbecue. Fruit was picked from old vines and the blend has aromas of black currants and notes of coffee. It’s a rich, smooth mouthful with polished tannins and would taste even better when matched with charred lamb.

Winemaker's Notes

The grapes for this wine were selected from old vines in the famous wine district of Langhorne Creek. It has an amazing lifted bouquet of blackberries with a touch of mocha. The ageing in oak for 15 months has enhanced the mouth-feel of this wine, which is rich and smooth, and offers a lovely soft finish with polished tannins. Best consumed over the next 3-4 years and will drink even more dangerously paired with roast lamb.

Wine Companion (2013 Vintage) says
Catches you by surprise: there are no price warnings, and the palate is only medium-bodied, but there is a deft touch to the back-palate, finish and aftertaste that adds up to a wine with altogether superior definition of the blend, courtesy of clear blackcurrant fruit and fine-grained tannins.

Deep Crimson, a succulent combination of red and black fruits, sage and cinnamon; the palate is medium-bodied fleshy and evenly balanced, offering plenty of complexity and depth of the the price tag.

Good colour; a medium-bodied wine that is all about blackcurrant and plum fruit supported by fine, gently savoury tannins.

Minty menthol notes to the blackcurrant nose. Soft, sweet and warm in the mouth and tasting of dark berries and olives. Nice level of tannins.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Good fruit definition of cassis, supported by savoury black olives and a little mint; quite deep on the palate, with fine-grained tannins across the finish; very good for the price.
