Cracka Review

Finally, our most exciting project of the year is here!

See, our buyers were over in NZ at the beginning of the year trawling through sample after sample, winery after winery, looking for something that they could call their own. It was a hard slog, until the team arrived at Ant Moore's place in Marlborough. Naturally Ant started with a couple of obligatory whites (good stuff, naturally), but it was when the Pinots were laid out that things got very interesting.

Of course it was all barrel sampling at the time, but gee whiz those Pinots were good. So good that it was pretty obvious that the search was over - this was the Pinot they'd been looking for!

Now, with great anticipation, we are proud to unveil the finished product - the 2014 By Ant Central Otago Pinot Noir! Crafted in a classic Central Otago style and drenched with black and red fruit flavours, this is a wonderfully powerful red loaded with dark cherry fruit and with a very generous handful of spice. Delicious wine and super Pinot

Winemaker's Notes

2014 was an exceptional growing year in Central Otago. Start of the growing season was cooler and exposed vineyards sites throughout the region were hit be quick changing weather systems and frequent windy days. Flowering take place over reasonably unsettle weather in December and because of this berry size was smaller and bunch weights giving flavoursome and very ripe grapes to produce a great pinot noir.

The nose exhibit aromas of black cherry, truffle, blackcurrant, tobacco and a hint of earthy tones and lovely toasted oak. The palate is concentrated and full with complex layers of dark chocolate, raspberry, dark cherry and a hint of ripe plum flavours and savoury, earthy, soft oak. The tannins are fine and smooth. A moreish wine to enjoy. This wine it will improve over time and it should be decanted to open up and reveal the layers within.
