Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
This Hawke's Bay wine is typically less scented and lush than southern styles, more weighty and firm. Richly coloured, with a spicy, fragrant bouquet, the 2000 vintage is warm and oaky (after a year in new and one-year-old French barrels), firm and complex, in a serious style for cellaring.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the bouquet is solid, with soft, ripe plummy fruit and sensible oak. The same smooth plummy fruit, with plenty of depth, is neatly balanced with soft tannins on the finish. A silver medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition and a gold medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards 1999, followed by a silver medal at the Royal Easter Wine Show 2000.
