C J Pask Winery Roys Hill Cabernet Malbec Merlot

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2001 Vintage) says
A 'fruity, soft, easy-drinking' style is the goal for this Hawke's Bay wine. The lightly oaked 2000 vintage is based on Cabernet Sauvignon (65 per cent), with 25 per cent Merlot and 10 per cent Malbec. Fullish in colour, with floral, red berry aromas, it offers fresh, simple, berryish, plummy flavours and a slightly crisp finish. (The 2001 vintage is an imported wine, reflecting the winery's shortfall of grapes after the devastating frost of November 2000.)

A 'fruity, soft, easy-drinking' style is winemaker Kate Radburnd's goal with this Hawke's Bay wine, previously called Roys Hill Red. The 1998 vintage vintage is a great buy. Based on Cabernet Sauvignon (70 per cent), but with Malbec also making its presence felt (20 per cent) and 10 per cent Merlot, it's a sturdy, mouthfilling Gimblett Road wine with rich, youthful colour. Delicious now, it offers fresh, warm blackcurrant and plum flavours with very restrained oak, soft tannins and a lingering finish
