Cracka Review

From a toasty Martinborough vintage comes this surprisingly elegant syrah (shiraz) that breaks the mold of a hot year. Weighing in at a very medium-bodied 12.8% alcohol, smells of red and dark fruits, pepper spice and deli-meats waft out of the glass, whilst the palate is graceful and velvety, with spiced fruit flavours, fine tannins, and a long, sauntering finish. There's still plenty of life in it, so crack one open with the lamb roast.

Winemaker's Notes

Our debut Syrah, from the hot 08 vintage. This wine surprised me with it’s beauty. The older vines (22yrs) having responded to our farming techniques offered incredible fruit heavy with aniseed and black fruits. In the winery a single small ferment yielded 7 barrels of wine. We chose to play it gently with oak as is custom in the northern Rhone valley employing dominantly six year old pinot barrels and zero new oak.

This wine is all about elegance, silk and purity. The nose is set with dark spices black fruits and just a hint of meat and leather. The palate is smooth and unfolds beautifully, leaving a lasting memory long after the wine has gone. Perfect match for venison loin with aromatic spices. Drink now until 2020. Alcohol: 12.8%
