Vermentino is another one of those 'so hot right now' Italian varieties to hit our shores, and they are certainly easy drinking and enjoyable in a Friday casual way. This is a pretty straight forward dry style that smells and tastes of apples, citrus and slight stone fruits. The palate is light and zesty with lip smacking acidity, and a dry, gentle finish. Awesome with roast pork or sardines on toast.
Appearance: Pale straw yellow with green tinges.
Nose: The nose is intense with hints of apple and bitter almond.
Palate: This medium bodied wine has a lightness to it which is refreshing, showing lovely
citrus and minerality on the palate, plus just a hint of sea-spray. Long and savoury
and very moreish!
Food: Serve well chilled with a range of fresh fish and shell fish. A dry white crying out for
deep fried squid, natural oysters, grilled fish and white fish and chips! Also a
wonderful aperitif with Carta di Musica (unique Sardegna style unleavened bread).
