Cape d'Estaing Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Cabernet Sauvignon is arguably the hero variety for Kangaroo island, with a suggestion that even the kangaroos like it (kangaroos like grapes in general actually. The sweeter and thus the closest to harvest the better). This cedary cool Cabernet looks mature and graceful too, old but not 'old' if you get our drift and perfect for a piece of kangaroo island kangaroo.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Dark, deep reddish-black.

Nose: Mouthwatering aromas of chocolate, cassis and spicy oak.

Palate: The palate reflects the nose with distinctive and typical cabernet flavours of cassis and moccha complemented by cinnamon-like spices and vanillin from the oak. The palate is firm but elegant.

Cellaring: The wine has a long life ahead of it, given good cellaring. It will show increasing complexity and roundness over the years.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Quite ripe; medium-bodied cassis/black fruits; clear varietal character; slightly spiky acidity, but tannins and oak neatly controlled.
