Wine Companion (2012 Vintage) says
Strikes the palate like a well-timed cover drive. This is a wine of sweet and savoury impact. Black cherries, cloves, olives and floral notes. Quite beautiful. Tannin infused with notes of crushed dry leaf and earth. Scoots through your mouth and lingers appreciably.

Deep but clear purple-crimson; the bouquet calmly announces its cool-grown origins, with fragrant, almost flowery, red fruits and spices; the medium-bodied palate is supple and smooth, building impressively on the finely structured finish thanks to exactly poised tannins.

Eye-popping complextiy, understated generosity, immense longevity, and all at a refreshing 13.5% alcohol. A honed structure crafted to exacting precision promises to hold it in great stead for a very long time.

Rob Mann is a Jedi Master of structure. Here, for the first time, is the proof that his craft transcends the known universe of cabernet. This fortified death star of tannin demands at least a decade for its defences to come down, so don’t even dream of invading yet.

Bright crimson-purple; fragrant red and black cherry fruit on the bouquet also runs fluently through the long, elegant, medium-bodied palate; as the wine moves to the finish, the spicy/savoury components become more obvious, yet still harmonious.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
An often underrated wine is the Cape Mentelle Shiraz. Yet when you taste something like this you really have to wonder why. Gorgeous scented nose with lifted floral spices. The palate is seamlessly woven with fine ripe tannins, fine grained oak and beautifully sweet medium weight fruit intensity. Super length and palate persistence. One of the best in this distinguished line.

In 2008 the stars aligned (when Rob Mann met the finest vintage and a berry sorting machine) producing a wine of Seiko precision, graphite-fine tannins and classed-growth Bordeaux longevity.

One of the big four senior citizens of the Margaret River, making distinguished and authoritative wines such as this, with blackcurrant, black olive, cedar and earth all intermingling on the long, medium- to full-bodied palate.
