Capel Vale Cellar Exclusive Geographe Petit Verdot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

There isn't too much Petit Verdot down the Southern End of WA, but there should be more as this wine packs a real punch of hearty blackcurrant fruit flavour with the kind of tannins you can chew on. A steak wine for sure.

Winemaker's Notes

Nose: Aromas suggesting violets and plums.

Palate: Complex mouth filling flavours like rich fruit cake, following on to great length with fleshy dark tannins.

Food ideas: The tannin structure in the wine matches well with beef bourguignonne, pork spare ribs and other rich meats.

Cheese ideas: Try matured cheeses such as a fully aged Gruyere.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Big, alcoholic wine. Christmas cake-like aromas and flavours with five spice notes. Quite dry and with a good structure.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011)
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Deep colour; a backward bouquet with dark black fruit, and a certain element of tar; the palate is very tannic and dry, but shows despite its fruit concentration; will always be a dark wine.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
WINESTATE (2007 Vintage) says
Subtle plum pudding and Cherry Ripe aromas and dark berry flavours, silky tannins and good oak use.

Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2007 Vintage) says
We don't like giving wines that are available only through an estate's cellar door too much airtime - there's no real point - but this is so good we couldn't resist including it. It's lovely wine. Full of powerful, persistent flavour. There are characters of lemon peel, blackcurrant, black olives and blueberries, but the main thing is that it's velvety, fresh and buoyant. It's just a cracking drink; we wish we could get our own mitts on it.
