Capel Vale Regional Series Mount Barker Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Cooler-climate shiraz is all the rage these days, and if that is your style then this shiraz out of Mount Barker will be right up your street. There's lots of elegant dark and blue berries on the nose, intermingled with smoky spices and a touch of deli meats. The palate is graceful and smooth, with bright berry flavours, licks of white pepper and chocolate, friendly tannins, and a smooth, juicy finish. Moroccan spiced lamb would be epic with this!

Winemaker's Notes

Nose: Complex lifted aromatics with dark fruits and earthiness.

Palate: Cassis, earthy mushrooms; a rich fleshy palate with good length and soft tannin finish.

Food: Rich red meats, casseroles and barbecues.

Bright, deep colour; highly perfumed aromas of blackberry, violets, fresh bitumen and ironstone; medium-bodied, juicy and generous, the structure could almost be overlooked, but provides a rock-solid framework for the lavish bright fruit on offer; quite a silky and sexy fragrant style.

This is one of two very good shirazes from Capel Vale. Sourced from the family companys Mt Barker vineyard, this has an attractive, fleshy, almost lush texture, juicy blackberry flavours, and pleasing approachability.

From WA’s most esteemed Shiraz country. Pure dark plum and black fruit aromas, cracked pepper and meaty oak complexity. The palate’s finely detailed and full of juicy dark flavour, plums and black fruits. Handy length.

Really well put together Shiraz from Mount Barker. Savoury and slightly spices bouquet leads into a soft and supple generous palate. The fine tannins and smooth oak treatment capture this variety beautifully especially at this price point.

Has contrasting components of very ripe plum and prune on the one hand, savoury/earthy/spicy on the other; still needs to resolve itself.

Mount Barker can pump out some excellent shiraz in good seasons, and this one was a good'un. Perfumed savoury notes on the nose with a mix of blueberry. Chocolate and spices. Supple and softly generous medium to full bodied palate delivering some quite beautiful fruit. Lovely enticing texture really captures this variety. Excellent wine.
