Castell Del Remei 1780

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The 2007 Castell del Remei is a deep, ruby-purple wine with great concentration. It offers heady aromas of candied fruit and clove. On the palate, look for stewed red fruit flavors, sandalwood and mint, and flashes of blackberry, clove and dark chocolate. With time, this red opens up nicely.

Winemaker's Notes

The Castell del Remei estate consists of one giant parcel of 400 hectares [988 acres]. Just 80 are dedicated to vines, which are an average age of 20 years old.
These are all trained on wires (following the ‘Royat double’ system) and consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Syrah, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
The local varieties that form such an intrinsic part of our blends – principally Ull de Liebre/ Tempranillo and to a lesser extent Garnacha – come from a network of local growers, most of whom are within 15 km from the estate, ensuring easy control and supervision in terms of vineyard management and harvesting.
Given the generous character of the region’s reds, a consequence of its arid soils and intense seasonal sunshine, all the wines have a great structure.
