Castelli Estate Cerca Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Take an Italian heritage, a French blend, and classic WA fruit and you have three good reasons to jump on this sumptuous red from Castelli Estate. 2009 was a stellar vintage in WA, the results of which can be found in this superb wine. It balances flavours of blackcurrant and chocolate with subtle notes of plum and vanilla before a rich and satisfying palate. The Merlot adds a sumptuous mouthfeel while Cabernet lends authority and poise. Masterful tannins make for a stylish finish in this very attractive red that would be perfect for a barbecue.

Winemaker's Notes

his is a fine reflection of the excellent vintage conditions and captures the essence of the regions it represents. Vibrant blackcurrant fruit dominates with some chocolate, plum and vanilla pod nuances. The Merlot imparts a perfumed cherry top note. A medium to full-bodied palate and silky tannins are perfectly balanced with the fruit flavour and oak. This well-structured wine will age nicely over the next 10 years.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep crimson, purple hue; the bouquet offers essency black fruits with a smoky background of toasty oak; the full-bodied palate is oaky and richly textured, yet the racy acidity cuts through, providing freshness and a red fruit highlight on the finish.

Light, bright colour; highly fragrant red and black fruit aromas and an elegant, but intense, medium-bodied palate, the tannins fine and supple. The Cabernet is Frankland, the Merlot Pemberton. Top value.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
A blend of Frankland Cabernet and Pemberton Merlot. Oodles of black currant with spicy "fruitcakey: overtones. There is some nice meaty, gamey character in there, with some silky tannins and fine-grained oak providing ample support. Has the structure and poise to support some longer-term cellaring.
