Muscat is one of those perfect after-dinner wines, especially if you are having something caramel or chocolate-inspired, and this one from Castle Rock is a gentle style of fortified wine that shows lovely musk florals, orange peel and sultana aromas on the nose. The palate is opulent and balanced with dried fruit and orangy flavours, a seductive mouthfeel, and a lush finish.
Appearance: Golden Yellow colour with orange hues.
Nose: Attractive nose showing youthful Muscat fruit characters of rose petal and raisins. This is complemented by some older developed, complex, rancio aromas.
Palate: A delicate fortified style showing luscious, rich and smooth flavours of raisins and lifted rose petals. The light rancio flavours add complexity and a rich mid palate. The finish is warm and luscious with an orange rind and marmalade tangy aftertaste.
Food: A perfect after dinner wine, complementing rich desserts and coffees. Also great for marinating strawberries.
Cellaring: This wine has been aged in oak barrels for an average age of 5-7 years, so is ready for immediate consumption. It will however last in bottle for several years.
