Cracka Review

The Grigio bandwagon keeps gathering momentum and Chain Of Ponds have made theirs in the Italian mould so expect a lean, crisp white that’s great with food. So typical of Grigio, it shows pear and peach with undertones of citrus. There’s a creamy persistence to the palate before a fresh, acid finish. If you’re a Sauvignon Blanc drinker looking for something different you should give this a whirl.

Winemaker's Notes

Brilliant clarity with pale golden straw and a slight green and copper hue. Intensely aromatic, very fresh fruit driven nose exhibiting Nashi pear, nectarine, tropical rockmelon and honeydew, white peach with hints of passionfruit, citrus notes and subtle florals with underlying almond notes.

The palate has good fruit intensity with trueness of fruit displaying crisp pear and nectarine notes and sun ripened peach. Subtle almond and savoury notes are well integrated in the background. Well rounded body with great minerality and drive of natural acid. Subtle textural notes from the oak and aromatic tannins give complexity and length to the lifted fruit finish which has great length and intensity.

A perfect accompaniment to freshly shucked oysters, shellfish, white fleshed fish or equally suited to a lazy afternoon in the sun.

James Caust , the Chain of Ponds blacksmith and wheelwright , visited Cornwall after the death of his wife in 1882. On the journey he wrote a beautiful letter to his youngest daughter, Amelia. It highlighted the isolation of the South Australian colony, the strong links back to their Cornish heritage and the extreme challenges faced with sea travel in the early years.

Developing orange blossom aromas with a minerally edge and a crisp and lively mineral/orange palate. Good example of the variety.
