Chain of Ponds The Red Semi Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

Sourced from the Adelaide Hills this sprightly white is picked early and produced using 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Stylistically it is both crisp and juicy, with some welcome bottle age fleshing everything out nicely.

Drink with some thai fish cakes (and keep it nicely chilled).

Winemaker's Notes

Colour - Brilliant green straw with vibrant green hues.

Bouquet - Intense, melon and citrus nose with some green apple, balanced with complex split pea and capsicum.

Palate - Luscious melon and nashi pear fruit with herbaceous notes combined with well balanced firm acidity give a clean and crisp finish to the wine along with excellent fruit length and palate weight.

Chain of Ponds The Red Semi Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

Angus Hughson (2008 Vintage) says
Nothing like a bit of zesty Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc lifted by some ripe Semillon fruit. This is a juicy, dry white that is fresh and fine, finishing with some decent length.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Very elegant, perfumed citrus nose and soft and creamy palate with a lovely zingy middle. Crisp on the end. Real crowd pleaser.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Comes alive on a long and intense palate, with a seamless varietal flow of grass, citrus and snow pea; bright finish.

Clean, crisp; touches of lemon and herb; bright, fresh mouthfeel with plenty of flavour and development potential.

Ken Gargett (2004 Vintage) says
In 1996 Neville Falkenberg, the maker of this wine and the man behind Penfolds' search for the great Aussie white, caught a King George whiting over half a metre in length. He reckons this wine is almost as good. No doubt the name will confuse someÑit's not a red but a slightly pink semillon (something to do with the vines providing grapes with a tinge of pink). Clean, fresh, cirrus and minerals. BYO fish.
