The Italian stallion is back, good old Sangiovese bringing a breath of Italian air to the McLaren Vale via Chalk Hill. Sangiovese is starting to prosper on the Australian wine scene and this wine is truly varietal. We suggest a pizza or pasta to complement the taste of blackcurrant and cinnamon with spice and the chalky, savoury tannins. One taste of this and you’ll be having romantic notions about running off with a loved one to Tuscany.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour - Bright Crimson.

Aromatics - Red Cherries, spice and floral notes.

Palate - A juicy and rich palate with intense strawberry fruit. Finely textured savoury tannins and well balanced acidity.

The Chalmers family has been an advocate of lesser-known grapes via their nursery business in the Murray Darling region. Sagrantino hails from Umbria where it can produce very powerful reds. Here it's sporting some meaty baked berry aromas, the palate's lightly flavoured, quite juicy, with drying tannins just trailing out beyond the fruit. Needs food.
