Before we go any further, this is not a Rose Champagne. It is called 'Le Rose' after the village the vineyards surround, and the contents are nothing short of awesome for a Champagne at the price! Appealing scents of red fruits, pot pourri and subtle buttered croissants waft out of the glass, whilst the palate is light and cheeky with red berry flavours, licks of citrus, a fine bubble, and a decent, bright, talcy finish. This would be great with oysters kilpatrick. 

Winemaker's Notes

Crisp, very dry wine that projects its red berry acidity right to the front. Certainly for food, it is textured with a steely core (Wine Enthusiast)

Food suggestions Poultry or fish in creamy sauce. This fine and fruity champagne is recommended for weddings or any party in need of celebrating.

Service temperature: 10°C (15 mins out of 4°C fridge).

Grapes: 49% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir & 13% Meunier (as red wine). Non Vintage with 51% reserve wine.

Gilles Dumangin is a massive fan of the Aussie wine scene. We heard from him after he bought this book last year and he explained, in his impeccable English, that it was an honour to be appreci- ated and enjoyed so far from his home in Champagne. As a small producer, he is fully aware that the big boys have enormous marketing budgets and production, but he still manages to side-step these issues, sprint up to the touch line, score in the corner and win our palates over. With such great Champagne at a brilliant price, he’ll be scoring over and over again this year.

I spent the second half of last year pleading with Coles to treat us to the most refined sub-$60 champagne rosé around. The wait is finally over because the call came on Tuesday afternoon that it’s landed at last. All the delights of elegant, glorious charm, rose petals, cherries, strawberry hull and fine minerality will soon be ours.
