Michael Cooper (1999 Vintage) says
Chard Farm's top Central Otago red is based on a series of selections - in the vineyard, at the end of fermentation, after maturation in the barrel. Blended from the five best casks out of 100, the outstanding 1999 vintage was grown at Bannockburn and matured for a year in French oak barriques (35 per cent new). Richly coloured, it's a fragrant, warm wine, mouthfilling, with excellent depth of raspberry, plum and spice flavours and nutty oak in a complex style with firm, supple tannins. A distinguished wine, it's an ideal candidate for cellaring.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium to full purple-red; spotlessly clean, fine plum and cherry fruit aromas are followed by a well-structured, relatively firm palate with plum and cherry fruit again the driving force, finishing with appropriate tannins. Good now, but has real improvement in front of it.
