Tyson Stelzer (2013 Vintage) says
In stunning new livery, the vibrant crimson ROV carries an alluring air of violets, strawberries and raspberries. The palate is a perfect replica of strawberries and cream, unashamedly medium-bodied and sweet, yet boldly forging a style all of its own, with an irresistible allure. Ever versatile, ready for everything from cold meats to roast pork. For the record, brief skin contact with 50% grenache, 22% cabernet, 10% pinot noir, 9% shiraz and 9% pinot meunier. 2013
Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
Charlie Melton introduced me to the new vintage of ROV on his fabled veranda last month by saying, "If we had a year that we wanted to show people as the archetypal ROV, 2012 would be that year. We would love to make it this way every year, in colour, aromatics and structure. It's a style all to itself and it doesn't fit the rose mould, but we've been making it this way for twenty-five years and we love it!" It's hard to add much, except to say that this bright crimson pink thing is one of the best ROVs to date, and you'll love it, too! It's a balancing act of texture with juicy fruit appeal and off-dry sweetness. With accurate notes of pomegranate, raspberry and guava fruit, think of this more as a light red than a rose - and don't be afraid to give it a generous chill.
Wine Taste Special Edition 89
James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Brilliant puce; a vibrantly fresh and lively cascade of all the red fruits imaginable run through a long and perfectly balanced palate, the aftertaste demanding another mouthful.
Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition 2013
Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
A bold, juicy and sweet vintage for ROV, loaded with pomegranate, raspberry and strawberry fruit. A big rose that fills the gap between dry rose and pinot. Give it a stern chill.
Wine100, September Edition 2011
James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Vivid puce; after a brief period of skin contact before pressing, the free-run juice was cold-fermented for six weeks and has svelte sweet fruit (not sugar-sweet) flavours that provide great mouthfeel, length and balance. Food style; forget the '11 demons.
Australian Wine Companion 2013 2012
Tyson Stelzer (2010 Vintage) says
This may be red cordial in colour but the association strictly ends as soon as its perfume of pomegranate, guava, spicy pink grapefruit and watermelon reaches your nostrils. The palate has lovely texture and balance, with some sweet red berry and strawberry notes. A strong chill will help to restrain its sweetness.
James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Vivid crimson; fragrant spiced plum aromas lead into a palate stacked with fruit flavour without sacrificing finesse and focus; a simply delicious blend of Grenache/Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Petit Meunier/Mataro.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
Melton's legendary rosé is driven by Barossa grenache; this has lifted red fruits and subtle, leafy complexity. Cassis and red fruit flavours throughout the palate, finishing with gentle grip and a red musky aftertaste. All nicely balanced - reliably fresh.
The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 2009
Angus Hughson (2009 Vintage) says
Ripe open-knit fruit driven style. Dry and spicy, lacking a little density and fruit freshness.
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Vivid fuchsia, it has fragrant rose petal/ raspberry/spice aromas, then a vibrant, positively flavoured palate in a continuing red fruit spectrum. It has good length and a dry, almost savoury, finish. Serious rose.
Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010
Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
Charlie Melton delivers this rose with Jedi-like precision every year. Deeper colour, light purple almost, really vibrant attractive brambly grenache aromas, very bright, no lumps or bumps, just ripe berry fruits and red apples; mouth-watering. The palate is juicy dense and flavoursome, unmatched for its vivacious, delicious drinkability.
Good Australian Wine Guide 2009 2008
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Brilliant pale crimson; typically delicious red fruit aromas and flavours; early picking and six-week cold fermentation has overridden vintage threat.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Vivid purple-red; vibrant red fruits with a twist of lemon; fresh and lively, breezing over the effects of drought. Always one of the best roses in Australia.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
Ken Gargett (2007 Vintage) says
One of the first wines to be released from any new vintage, this never fails to inspire. OK, the shocking neon-pink colour might be gaudy, but it is one of those wines that always brings a smile. The grapes seem to be a bit of a mix of whatever Charlie has on hand at the time, all tossed in together. A bit like his beloved Adelaide Crows' jersey, only it comes up trumps every time—unlike the Crows.
Don't Buy Wine Without Me 2008 2007
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Vivid fuchsia, it is spotlessly clean, offering a sunburst of red fruit flavours ranging from strawberries to cherries to raspberries, with very good balance and fruit sweetness.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Vivid, deep fuchsia; has real depth to the plum and raspberry fruit, yet is not heavy or sweet; a rose with attitude.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Vivid red-purple; as ever, bursting with strawberry and raspberry aroma and flavour, yet retains delicacy.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Brilliant fuchsia; the bouquet offers an aromatic mix of raspberry, rosemary and spice, the palate with intense cherry and raspberry fruit. Great flavour; one of the best yet.
Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Vivid colour, vivid aroma and vivid flavour all achieved without sugary sweetness, just cherry/cherry blossom fruit.
Australian Wine Companion 2003 2002
James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Bright crimson fiischia; spotlessly clean cherry-accented bouquet leads into a palate with abundant cherry fruit flavours; very good length and balance, and more weight than the Turkey Flat Rose of the same vintage.
