Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
The grapes come from four small plantings in different districts within the Barossa Valley; they are open-fermented, basket-pressed, and spend 2 1/2 years in a mix of used and new American and French oak. The colour is deep and bright, and the bouquet, like the medium-to full-bodied palate, is full of blackberry, plum and licorice fruit; the tannins are plentiful and ripe, the oak balanced and integrated.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Comes from three vineyards in the Eden Valley, Marananga and Vine Vale areas of the Barossa, and given Rolls Royce treatment in the winery; the smooth and supple palate is no more than medium-bodied, but is beautifully balanced and structured; black fruits, mocha, fruitcake, spice and licorice are all woven into the whole, French oak also adding a touch of class.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Purple -crimson; sourced from a single 0.4-ha vineyard high in the hills of the Eden Valley; the register of aromas and flavours switches decisively to a brighter, yet more savoury/spicy/earthy blackberry and licorice spectrum; outstanding length and balance.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Very ripe with a little desiccated fruit on the bouquet; the alcohol really dominates, but there is an abundance of sweet fruit there; a little freshness would not go astray.

WINESTATE (2006 Vintage) says
Huge, super-ripe style - very oaky but has great presence and also loads of very good fruit. Dense, intense and needs lots of time in the cellar.
Winestate 20082009
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Abundant flavour, the -sweetness of the fruit suggesting a higher alcohol than 14. 5°; nice oak, but needs more authoritative tannins to provide full balance.
