Cracka Review

Many white drinkers limit themselves to Savvys or Chardies and don’t give Riesling a look in. While there are only a handful of people who rate Rizzas number one, the 2011 Chrismont Riesling could change all that. This wine is dry and refreshing with ripe pineapple and tangy lime flavours and makes a great partner with seafood.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Light straw with a hint of green hue.

Nose: Honeysuckle, lemon & lime.

Palate: Citrus and tropical fruit on the palate are carried by a great acid structure giving good flavour length; an attractive wine while young, upon careful cellaring will develop subtle toast & honey complexity.

Food: Seafood or Asian cuisine while young, chicken upon ageing.

Ben Thomas (2011 Vintage) says
I had the 2005 release recently and it was delightful – I can still taste it – and as soon as this came in it went straight to the fridge. It’s an exercise in subtlety with a floral bouquet of talc, blossom, honeysuckle, citrus and passionfruit. A real lemon-and-lime cordial flavour is intense and refreshing. There’s good balance here, with chalky acidity with a drying grip, balanced and subtle. The lemon-and-lime theme lingers on the excellent finish. Food match - Cold prawns
James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; has a highly aromatic, floral, citrus bouquet, and a long and intense palate, sweet lime flavours complemented by bright acidity on the finish. Perhaps a touch of botrytis, but no mould.

Flowery citrus blossom and honeysuckle aromas lead into an intensely tangy palate with unsweetened lime and lemon flavours and a near-dry finish.

Has an attractive combination of citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours; an each-way proposition for now or later drinking.

A hint of reduction on the bouquet; good flavour, with lemon and a mineral core that carries through on the finish.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Fresh, clean and lively aromas and flavours of citrus and green apple; a vibrant, dry finish; developing well, though slowly.

There is a lot going on in Victoria's King ValleyÑit might actually be the most dynamic wine region in Australia. There are lots of young, exciting wine makers, lots of new varieties and lots of great cool climate vineyards. The Chrismont winery is at the forefront of the pack and this riesling is one of the best in VictoriaÑgorgeously citrussy, great now, differently fabulous in five years.

Perfumed, aromatic; considerable intensity and length, with a touch of spritz.

Chrismont is the label from the other half of the Pizzini family, that of Arnie Pizzini. As with the Pizzini wines from cousin Fred Pizzini, the fruit is all grown in the cool climes of Victoria's wonderful, and quite Italian, King Valley. This riesling is simply scrumptious. It is floral, limey and soft as all the good ones are, but it also seems to have a real touch of class about itÑalthough maybe that's just because I like the Pizzinis.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; the fragrant bouquet has aromas of sage, herb, spice and lemon rind; there is plenty of sweet fruit on the mid-palate, and good length. Overall, a relatively soft, early drinking style with lots of appeal.
