Described by Pernod Ricard NZ as a 'serious Sauvignon Blanc', the 2005 vintage was grown in the company-owned Ngatarawa Vineyard in Hawke's Bay, hand-picked, and fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (50 per cent new). It's a very ripe-tasting wine, fleshy and nutty, with some 'funky' notes adding complexity and a dry, well-rounded finish. In style terms, it's a million miles closer to white Bordeaux than Marlborough. The 2006 (tasted prior to bottling, and so not rated) is a ripe, non-herbaceous style, mouthfilling and tropical fruit-flavoured, with oak complexity and a rounded finish.
