Church Road Reserve Hawke's Bay Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
This classy wine is based on the pick of Pernod Ricard NZ's Hawke's Bay Chardonnay crop. It is hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barriques (about 50 per cent new), and stays on its yeast lees for the total time in barrel (up to 14 months), with frequent lees-stirring. In recent years, the wine has become more elegant, less 'upfront' in style, and should mature longer. The 2008 vintage has a rich, complex bouquet. Full-bodied and concentrated, with deep, stone-fruit flavours, well seasoned with toasty oak, it is powerful and full of personality, with a strong oak influence — bur the fruit to carry it. The 2009 is mouth filling and rich, with stone-fruit and toasty oak flavours showing excellent complexity and harmony.
