Clairault Margaret River Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
A 53%/47% blend, another curious example of the blend having more fruit expression than 100% sauvignon blanc; indeed, not just more fruit, but extreme complexity to the range of flavours (lemongrass, gooseberry, passionfruit) and an emphatic finish. Quite a wine.
Australian Wine Companion 2012
Rob Geddes MW (2009 Vintage) says
A garland of pristine fresh green leafy aromas and flavours decorate this wine and a nice line of acidity makes it a good drink.
Australian Wine Vintages 2010
Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Generous and stylish, with genuine quality, balance and regionality. Its pristine, fresh and slightly pungent aromas of passionfruit, lychees and gooseberries reveal grassy nuances and a lift of tropical fruit. Juicy and generous, it's round and flavoursome, with an underlying chalkiness that aids its shape and direction. It finishes fresh and fruity, with a persistent core of flavour, a vegetal aspect and lively acidity.
The Australian Wine Annual 2012
Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
Good form for Clairault indeed; this has real freshness and verve with lively lemon and tropical fruits interwoven with herbs and dried grasses. The palate has a crisp lemon and herb flavour, clean and fresh with satisfying balance.
The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 2009
Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Fresh and tangy, with a restrained expression of gooseberries, lychees and melon backed by nuances of tropical fruits and a restrained herbaceousness. It's long and juicy, with a smooth mouthfeel supported by sherbet-like nuances and a slightly angular citrusy acidity that leaves the palate with a lingering lemony note.

Oak works wells as a subtext; has good line and length; herb, grass and mineral notes.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
Oodles of beautiful lip-smacking goodies in here. The lively, fresh aromas of tropical fruits, lifted herbal gooseberry and a pleasant dusting of herbaceousness. Lovely finely-textured palate with a zippy lingering finish. Just as the style should be made.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Classic Margaret River style; good focus, intensity and length; marries tropical fruit with a lemon juice dressing.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
This has had some impressive success on the wine show rounds, and it's easy to see why. Stunning concentration and aromatic intensity, bright tropical fruits and gravelly/ savoury complexity. The palate is piercing and direct, impressive grassy cut through lighter juicy tropical flavour. Great length and presence.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Tight, lively and long, with grassy semillon undertones giving both structure and length, the sauvignon blanc that touch of ripe fruit.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
Semillon adds brightness and minerality to this lightly herbaceous blend whose lightly sweaty and lemony scents of candied citrus rind, passionfruit and fresh gooseberries reveal a lively hint of musk stick. Long, fresh and brightly flavoured, with fresh melon and citrus fruit, it's tangy and juicy, with a lingering finish of fresh mineral acidity.
Australian Wine Annual 2008 2007
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Similar smoky aroma to that of the Sauvignon Blanc; the semillon tightens and lengthens the palate without compromising overall flavour.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; the bouquet is spotlessly clean with spice and mineral aromas. The palate has good balance and length, bringing touches of herb, grass and lemon into play.
