Cracka Review

Awarded a Five Star accolade by James Halliday, Clairault is one of the original and best Margaret River wineries. Thanks to vineyard practices that combine organic and conventional farming Clairault are able to achieve wines that really speak of place. This Shiraz already has 6 years of age so it’s really hitting its straps and deserves to be served at your next barbecue.

We think you’ll love this elegant red, that’s rich in aromas of currants and fruitcake and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Medium bodied with approachable tannins this will go down a treat with a charred t-bone steak.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep red in colour. Classic fruit cake aromas, raisins, currants, prunes, nutmeg, cinnamon, with a touch of vanilla oak. An attractive aroma that show good fruit complexity.

The palate is medium bodied with a sweet core of vibrant red berry fruit flavour. Fine powdery tannins provide a balanced structure through to a clean finish.

Drop that’s Different “…this week I have included a couple of great red wines…the Clairault shiraz from Margaret River shows what this region can do with this variety in good years… A very good example of Margaret River Shiraz. Sourced from a single vineyard near Cowaramup. It’s ripe and quite full with spicy nutmeg and vanilla bean subtly infused. Soft generous palate with rip tannins.” - 91/100 Ray Jordan—The West Australian, March 2009

“Raspberry jam, leaf, truffle, spice and Old Jamaica chocolate. It’s medium bodied with Rum and Raisin ice cream flavours and a dollop of fresh raspberry, and while it’s sweet and a little syrupy, it manages to look quite fresh and lively at the same time. Fine grained powdery tannins and solid length of flavour complete the picture. Not exactly my preferred style but a pretty decent wine. Looked better after being open for a day.”88 /100 Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, March 2009

Clairault Margaret River Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Has well above-average weight and depth for Margaret River shiraz, with ripe berry fruits offset by fine but ripe tannins; good oak use.

WINESTATE (2005 Vintage) says
You can smell the blackcurrants and theres a touch of herbs that is echoed on the harmonious palate.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied; retains good freshness to its bright, red cherry, plum and spice fruit which belie the alcohol; fine tannins.
