Claymore Walk on the Wild Side Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The secret here? Viognier, with a dash of the white grape sexing up this Shiraz to make it glossier and more purple and more rich, generally making for a softer wine than your typical Clare Shiraz.

Winemaker's Notes

This style is made following the example of the French where we harvest our Shiraz and Viognier on the same day, effectively blending in the vineyard. Co-fermentation results in integrated Viognier characters that complement and lift the Shiraz without dominating the wine.

Appearance: Deep, vibrant ruby

Nose: A youthful, lifted bouquet dominated by sweet spicy oak but with the promise of full, fruit driven aromatics to open up in time. Showing as spiced plum, violets and tell-tale Viognier apricot.

Palate: The ripeness of the season is apparent in the mouth – all ripe juicy berries and soft mouth feel with just a touch of warming alcohol on the finish. Clean, spiced oak flavours linger and the fruit flavours are pulled into line by balanced acid.

´Serious oaky cassis nose. Sweet in the mouth, with intense mulberry-like flavours and lovely chewy tannins.

An exotic and expressive bouquet, the viognier making a major impact on the luscious fruit; likewise rich in the mouth.
